Are you mad?
We've gone ahead and asked it on your behalf. It's ok, we know that's what you're probably wondering. We get asked quite a lot actually. I mean a professional magician and a poet how the heck does that work? And amongst all of the podcasts in the universe are we really creating a new one? Well the answer is YES absolutely we are.
We are doing this right good and proper too. We my friends, are reviewing the arts in a none snobby way. Why? Well because, we feel as artists in this crazy business that there is a massive need to make this world more accessible to EVERYONE. Sometimes it seems there is a right snootiness lingering around and it can be off putting. We want to help break that stigma and involve everyone, I mean we're as working class as you can get our kid.
So here we are two tasters down and about to launch our first episode. We've already got a guest list to be proud of reaching out to very different artists. Our first guest is extremely inspirational and definitely knows the tricks of her trade (any clues?). We want to be a platform to voice different artists and their story of how they got into their position. Take Lowry for example, a Salford lad who loved to paint - well his own mother knocked his confidence and told him he was rubbish. I know imagine LS Lowry not knowing how famous he'd become. If you've not already seen Mrs Lowry & Son, I suggest you do. We watched the premiere at The Lowry in Salford (not showing off honest).
The point is, it's a mindset and a belief and Word on Our Street wants to change a mindsets around the arts to encourage people to believe that they deserve to be involved in the arts just as much as anyone. I mean have you heard us? (if not we're on all major platforms by the way just saying) We are most definitely not highbrow - more eyebrow really.
Our first episode launches 10th July with the fantastic female magician Nicola Arkane..... topped with a bit of street banter of course.
We also talk the talk on the following arty farty areas:
Theatre: Hamilton yet aired in TV (OMG),
Book: Human Kind A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman,
Literature in prisons: Poetry used inside prisons
Bottom line is this, everyone deserves to be part of the arts we're a collaboration of ideas and emotions which need to be showcased and experienced by all. After all we might not all be high brow but we all definitely have eye brows. And if for some reason you don't, you know what we're saying - let's have some fun.

P.S We began this podcast after collaborating and being winners of a competition The Lowry ran to perform at Festival Week 53. Although this was cancelled due to Covid 19 our spirit wasn't so help us help the arts and artists tell their stories in a non snobby way:)
